Commissions
Jay Moore has painted more than 250 commissioned landscapes, each one created to meet the unique goals of his individual collectors.
There are two ways to commission a Jay Moore painting, depending on your needs:
- Commission Jay to depict a specific place or region, such as your ranch or place of family significance.
- Choose from Jay’s library of landscape field studies to create painting that will fit a specific area in your home, business or organization.
“My husband and I commissioned Jay to paint Verdant Hills two years ago. Both the painting and the process exceeded our expectations. Jay was able to capture not only the landscape but the magic of place. Equally important, Jay was an absolute pleasure to work with.” ~Robert and Jill M., Virginia
Commissions depicting a specific place
Jay will bring his portable easel painting tools to your location — even if it means canoeing down a river or dropping in by helicopter to reach your desired scene.

Step 1: Process and fees
To begin the process, Jay will provide you with a pre-project agreement that defines responsibilities, expectations, timelines, deposits and expenses. Upon receipt of the contract and deposit, you and Jay will establish a start date based on the season of year you wish to have depicted in your painting.
Step 2: Jay creates studies
Jay will create 5-10 oil studies of your subject matter, each with a different take on the vicinity.
Step 3: Choose your painting from the studies
From the field studies, you may choose which images you would like developed into a large sized studio painting and what size you desire.

Step 4: Finished painting delivery
Your finished painting(s) will be delivered in the time specified in your contract.
When Jay goes on location, he creates several sketches of scenes that would be appropriate for a finished painting. Clients who wish to have a painting fit a specific wall or architectural feature can peruse these sketches to choose the image to be developed into a painting.
Price is based per square inch.
“I must admit we were nervous when we commissioned our painting, but the whole procedure was a delight, culminating with a painting we love, and what feels like a new friend. When we walk in our home this painting reminds us of all the happy times in Rocky Mountain National Park. Thanks Jay for our lovely art.” ~Dave and Valerie B., Washington DC
